Coronet Peak

It all started in 1947

When Coronet Peak opened as New Zealand’s first commercial ski field, switching farmland for ski slopes when the snow hit the ground in winter. The mountain has been leading the way ever since; pioneering the first rope ski tow, implementing the largest snowmaking set up in the southern hemisphere, and hosts New Zealand’s longest ski day with First Tracks and Night Ski.

Coronet Peak is a renowned race training destination, with dedicated facilities and terrain used by both local and international ski teams. Fast, consistent conditions make it ideal for developing skills and pushing performance. It is why world class athletes like alpine ski racer Alice Robinson choose Coronet Peak as their training ground.

Early access to freshly groomed runs

Locals will often get their snow fix early in the day enjoying First Tracks on fresh corduroy before grabbing a coffee and heading to work. Those here to take their time can savour a pizza at Heidi’s Hut while warming up by the fire or soak in the views from the Ice Bar.

When the sun goes down, Coronet Peak stays open. Ski or ride under lights on selected runs, with extended hours and a unique alpine atmosphere just 20 minutes from Queenstown.

Coronet Peak transforms in summer with lift-assisted mountain biking and access to scenic alpine trails overlooking Queenstown. During the summer months locals and visitors can enjoy a scenic alpine gondola ride and 360-degree views at the top of the mountain or drop in on one of the world-class downhill or XC mountain bike trails.
