Snow Factory

Winter is guaranteed to arrive early every year here at The Peak with the arrival of our new Snow Factory!

From May 2026, Coronet Peak will be the first ski area in the South Island to introduce a Snow Factory, a snowmaking machine that works no matter the temperature.

Unlike traditional snow guns, the Snow Factory uses a closed circuit to freeze water and turn it into snow without any chemical additives. That means guaranteed snow on the lower Learner Slopes, and Snow Play zone for an earlier opening.

Snow Play & Learner Area opening 29 May 2026

We’re planning to open these lower zones from 30 May so beginner skiers, snowboarders and families can get on snow earlier than ever before.

It’s a great chance to build confidence, lock in those early-season laps, or just come up for a play or sled in our designated Snow Play area.

Sightseeing & Snowplay

We’ll still open the rest of the mountain from 13th June when winter properly rolls in but if you’re keen to get a head start, we’ll see you in May!
